Exhibiting Love Birds

Back to Home

One of my passions and hobbies is Exhibiting Love Birds. The excitement it generates is not something that I know how to describe. Not only are the friendships formed life long but their is a wondrous feeling of achievement when you see one of your birds sitting on the top bench. This is my 4th year showing, and my 1st year to get a 1st place win. If you have an interest in showing, please contact me. We always are looking for new exhibitors to join the hobby and come participate in shows. If I can put a bird on the top bench, then I know that anyone who is willing to put in the work can do it as well. I will continue to add pictures for my all show birds. Please come back often.

Plaques won at 2006 Nationals in Schaumburg, IL. That's one of the great things about The National Cage Bird Show. There are so many plaques, at least 3 plaques for each section. It's possible to take home a plaque and not even place in the Top 20 places.

2003

I did not place this year at all, but I definately learned a lot about exhibiting. Two wonderful people gave me encouragement and advice, and I will always be greatful to them. Thank you Linda Brandt and Doree Bedwell. I dedicate this page to the both of you. Without either of you, none of this would have happened.

I won't say that there weren't a few moments of disappointments but with each show I went to I learned more about what I needed to do. At the time I had 4 birds, and it didn't seem as if they were show quality. There was 1 bird after it matured a Whitefaced American Cinnamon Violet that would prove me wrong in the future(see 2005 and 2006). I knew that I wanted to go back again, but I needed new and better birds, and I knew in order to even be competitor in the game, I needed to have better stock, and what better place to get it than other good exhibitors.

2004

I did not achieve my goal of winning Best Novice, but I did win a Best Unflighted ribbon.(Best Baby Love Bird). I had bred this bird myself, and in many ways it was a big achievement for me. It told me that perhaps, just perhaps I was on the right track.

2005

I don't know what happened in 2005, but it was almost as if something just clicked, and my birds started placing. The impossible had happened. : ) Perhaps it was the conditioning and spraying, and the training of my birds, or just that all the bad luck had run out. In 2005, I finally won my Best Novice ribbon that I had wanted so badly the past 2 years. Since I placed on the top bench in 2005, I would no longer be eligible for the Best Novice ribbon in 2006. At Nationals I also was able to bring some nice plaques home!

2006

I came into 2006 more excited than ever as I had new birds I wanted to show, but I had no idea what lay in store for me. The year is not yet up and there could be many surprises that lay ahead. One good thing about 2006 is that there were a slew of shows at the beginning of the year, whereas in general the Fall is the normal show season. This year was definately the year I told myself that I would travel. Who knows if I'll be able to go so far for shows in the future.

There are days I still don't believe that I've actually placed on the top bench. I still remember that feeling 4 years ago of going to a show and just wishing so badly that one day one of my birds could place.
