I am just as impatient as any new love bird breeder to find out what their babies are. Right when a baby is born, I look at all kinds of stuff such as eye color, down color, feet color to try and surmise or guess what the baby could possibly be. For most of these babies, guessing isn't too hard, but then with the newer mutations combined with Opaline it's not always easy to be able to tell what you have. (See a new picture below!)
| Mystery Baby #2 - Whitefaced Violet Opaline American Cinnamon - February 2007 |
Look how adorable she is!! I decided to name her Serenade. I've waited so long for this baby. I think she's a Whitefaced Violet Opaline American Cinnamon!
Here's another picture of the little sweetheart. You can see the pretty colors of her rump. She's facing the bin, because she wants to go back and cuddle with her brothers and sisters.
Here's an older picture of Serenade. Just a week or 2 makes such a big difference. She's such a pretty bird!
| Mystery Baby #1 - Whitefaced Violet Opaline - September 2006 |
At first I thought this bird might be a Whitefaced Blue Opaline. Blue series opaline have the fuzzy, white down shown in the baby above, so I knew it was an Opaline, the question was what kind? Then after a couple of days, seemlingly Violet flight feathers started coming in, so I thought could I really have actually produced a Whitefaced Violet Opaline?

Here is a blurry picture of the baby, but you can kind of see the Violet coming in on the flight feathers of this baby. I guess I'll know in a week or 2, but I can't help but feel excited about my new mystery bird.
Here's a picture of the baby that was just taken today. It doesn't look violet at all to me, but what do I know? So far, I have 1 vote from Lisa Viteir who says it's a WF Violet Opaline, one from another friend who thinks it's a WF Medium Blue Opaline, and I'm currently waiting for Linda Brandt for her advice on what she thinks. Whatever it is, Opaline mixed in with Whitefaced definately produces gorgeous Pastel Blue birds! Sooo beautiful!! I'm hoping this bird is male, but whatever it is, I'm going to have to find an appropriate mate for it. If you know what this bird is or think you do please e-mail me.
*** Linda Brandt just wrote me back, and she said that there definately is a single factor violet but doesn't know if it's a WF. This is exciting!
Here's another picture of the baby 5 days later. Still s gorgeous as ever!
